Ringing in the New Year as a Senior
Staying up all night waiting for the ball to drop is a young person’s game! Seniors remember those long nights waiting for a kiss at midnight and the even longer mornings spent wishing they had gone to bed earlier. Those days are over. So, the question becomes…
How can seniors ring in the New Year in their own way? Luckily, we at Canterfield have a few ideas.
New Year’s Eve Dinner & Dessert at a Restaurant
A nice dinner out with a champagne toast followed by a slice of chocolate cake is just as celebratory as staying up all night. Take yourself and your loved ones out somewhere special and allow the dinner to be your big sha-bang! Then, you can cozy up in bed and watch New Year’s Rockin’ Eve until you fall asleep.
Plan a Game Night with Friends & Family
Grab a few friends, a couple of bottles of wine, and this Wine Tasting Murder Mystery Game. Bonus points for dressing up! Or pull your smartest friends together for a rambunctious game of Really Loud Librarians. Or if these games are too involved, try Take 5! It’s an easy card game about scoring the least amount of points and surprisingly exciting!
Take a Trip Somewhere New
The New Year doesn’t have to be spent at home! The start of the year is a great time to get out because after New Year’s Eve, everything is quiet and peaceful. Consider going to New Orleans and visiting the French Quarter for post-Christmas magic, or go to Austin for the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park.
Move Up Midnight
Maybe midnight is too late to stay up but you enjoy the thrill of counting down to New Year’s Day? Okay, then, move up midnight! If you’re on the East Coast, Germany’s midnight is your 6PM! Or, Greenland’s midnight is your 9PM! Decide what time you want your evening to end, and I guarantee it’s midnight somewhere.
